Come join the OCAIHA for its July 10 meeting. This month’s topic is the F-35 Chemical/Biological Risk Reduction Test.
Program: F-35 Chemical/Biological Risk Reduction Test
A test was conducted at the Air Force Flight Test Center to test the feasibility of using two decontamination
techniques to allow a aircraft to return to active service after being contaminated with chemical and biological
warfare agents and to allow maintainers to perform routine tasks without being encumbered with chem/bio
protective clothing. The F-35, Joint Strike Fighter, is the first US military aircraft to have this as a requirement.
Speaker:
Otto Zahn retired after 21 years in the USAF as the Manager of Environmental Health at Edwards AFB. While there he organized the Medical Decontamination Team that participated in NASA Space Shuttle Landings and
industrial accidents. He had previously organized NBC decontamination teams in Korea and the United Kingdom. His current assignment is Health and Environmental Engineer with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
