Description and Responsibilities:

1. Job Description

- Conduct surveys and inspections of work locations and facilities to identify and check for the presence of chemical agents, biological agents, physical agents, or ergonomic stress.
- Identify the Companys hazardous material inventories, storage, and use procedures; obtain and evaluate test studies and vendor information on hazardous products and processes with regard to health effects, hazard potential and compliance with applicable laws and standards.
- Conduct environmental monitoring studies to evaluate hazards, collecting samples, gathering data and testing for various hazardous agents such as contaminants, noise, and heat.
- Respond to requests and investigate accidents, exposures, injuries or other incidents involving chemical, physical, or biological agents; make arrangements for medical assistance or surveillance if necessary; instruct those concerned to take appropriate corrective action and/or stop work progress as required.
- Develop, recommend, and implement controls, procedures, equipment usage, and corrective solutions for various health hazards.
- Conduct safety meetings and presentations regarding on-the-job health hazards, and instruct employees and supervisors in safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Answer inquiries and interpret state and federal rules, regulations and laws and implement proposed action to ensure Company compliance.
- Represent the Company at governmental agency meetings and hearings and prepare and maintain reports, records, files and correspondence related to internal activity and external regulations that may have an impact on the Company.
- Responsible for conducting inspections, and monitoring the Companys facilities and operations to ensure a healthy work environment; making detailed and comprehensive tests, samplings, and studies; analyzing data and test results making recommendations to correct or prevent hazardous conditions; and ensuring compliance with State and Federal safety rules and regulations. Failure to correctly or expeditiously identify and evaluate hazardous conditions could lead to a threat to health or injury to employees or people of the community.
- Deal with all levels of employees throughout the Company. Has contacts with State and Federal inspectors, contractors, vendors, physicians, laboratory personnel and counterparts in other companies.
- Works in an office with frequent field inspection trips. May be required to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour a day basis.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelors degree preferably in industrial hygiene, chemistry, engineering, the physical or biological sciences. Requires a minimum of three years industrial hygience experience involving exposure to field construction, chemical and/or industrial operations.
- Requires a broad knowledge of Company operations, work equipment, materials and chemicals.
- Must be able to use a wide variety of instruments to evaluate hazard levels and determine hazard potential for variety of occupations at different locations. - Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with contractors, compliance officials, and Company personnel.
- Must have a high degree of analytical ability to evaluate test results, field samples, and research data, as well as interpreting State and Federal regulations and laws.
- Must possess critical oral and written communications skills.
- Requires a high degree of judgment in assessing situations and in those cases requiring extreme actions, such an enforcing work stoppage.
