California State University Northridge (CSUN) Presents:
The 2010 EOH Annual Technical Symposium
“Sustainability Initiatives: A View to the Future”
February 18, 2010Please hold this date.
California State University Northridge (CSUN) presents its 4th Annual Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) Technical Symposium at the University Student Union, Northridge Center Complex.
This year’s Technical Symposium explores the topic of sustainability and kicks off at 3:00 PM with a guided tour of the groundbreaking fuel cell, CSUN’s One Megawatt Fuel Cell and accompanying rain forest. Witness firsthand how a sustainability initiative can be successfully applied. After the tour, distinguished guest speakers from the academic and the private sector will address the broad issue of sustainability through the exploration of sustainability initiatives: academic initiatives, policy initiatives and business initiatives.
This year's distinguished group of speakers provide a cross-section of perspectives and include:
Nurit Katz, MPP, MBA,
UCLA’s Sustainability Coordinator and founder of the
UCLA Sustainability Resource Center; Dr.
Michael Wilson, PhD, MPH, Research Scientist at the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, and Acting Executive Director of the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry; Lorraine Sedlak, MS, MBA, CSP, CIH, Director, EHS & Sustainability at a Division of Black & Decker; and Mark Katchen, MS, MBA, CIH, REA, Managing Principal of the Phylmar Group, Inc.
In
2006, California State University Northridge (CSUN) enacted one of
the most comprehensive university policies on clean energy in the
U. S. As part of the new policy, the university sought a new
power generation system that was efficient, secure and environmentally
friendly. CSUN installed the single largest fuel cell at any university
in the world in February 2007 - a one megawatt (1 MW) stationary
fuel cell power plant system from FuelCell Energy®. The system,
comprised of four Direct FuelCell® 300 (DFC300®) power plants,
reforms hydrogen from natural gas to power the 1 MW fuel cell.
CSUN
invites all interested students, professors, alumni, and professionals
from the fields of environmental and occupational health, chemistry,
engineering, biology, and public health and safety to attend this
stimulating presentation on Sustainability Initiatives.
The symposium begins at 3:00 PM and ends at 9:20 PM. The location is the Northridge Center Complex in the University Student Union
